Introducing Our Royal Patron

By British Exploring Society,

Please join us in cheering the news that His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has joined us as our Royal Patron.

The Duke of Edinburgh continues a strong legacy of Royal Patronage, following in the footsteps of his father, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, who supported and spoke at our (very glamorous) formal dinners in the 1950s and our very first Royal Patron, who was also an Edward, HRH Edward Prince of Wales in 1935. When Prince Edward became King, he was succeeded as our Patron by HRH Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, and then in 1970 his son Prince William took over. The Duke of York was our Patron from 1985 to 2019.

We are honoured with our continued Royal Patronage, which – like our wider story – is one of continuity and of change. The Duke of Edinburgh is a prominent champion of adventure for the young people who tackle positive challenges with us, and as we look ambitiously towards 2032 and our 100th anniversary.
